Cryogenic liquefied natural gas (LNG) is becoming more popular as very "clean" fuel, especially in the maritime sector. Thus, there is great demand for specific equipment and valves for LNG systems. However, high demands apply for the material properties and on the fire safety for these.

Costa flagship: the finest IT for “Italy’s finest”

The costa diadema is a gem among the world’s most stylish cruise ships. Costa crociere’s flagship made even better by a first-class it solution. Future-proof infrastructure and the velimo guest portal provide smart infotainment.

In addition to the Velimo infotainment platform, Lufthansa Industry Solutions implemented key IT infrastructure components – for the local area network and for Wi-Fi – on the Costa Diadema in the first half of 2014. Costa also decided to hire the service provider as a long-term IT partner for maintenance and support on the Costa Diadema, which set sail on its maiden voyage in November 2014.

Velimo, which was developed in-house by Lufthansa Industry Solutions, is the heart of the on-board system. The platform connects smart TVs and digital signage displays on the Costa Diadema. Travelers can use Velimo to experience a wide selection of audiovisual entertainment, from TV and video on demand to audio streaming, and find out about the current route as well as landside excursions. Velimo gives crew a fast and easy way to enter the latest trip and safety information to be shown on the connected screens. Velimo’s architecture has been constructed in such a way that it can be flexibly expanded if need be. Additional functions such as climate and lighting control in the cabin, as well as further devices such as smartphones and tablets, can be easily implemented in Velimo.

Velimo has been developed especially to meet the needs of the cruise and tourism industry. Customer-specific configurations are also available. Lufthansa Industry Solutions custom tailored the user interface to the processes on the Costa Diadema and gave it a look to match the cruise line’s corporate design.

IT in flux: a high-tech guest experience on a Danube cruise

Even when the Crystal Mozart casts off, it still stays well connected. A mobile solution from Lufthansa Industry Solutions has equipped Crystal River Cruises’ first river cruise ship with a first-class IT infrastructure.

During a general overhaul, Lufthansa Industry Solutions equipped Crystal Mozart with an IT solution that was developed especially for the cruise industry and hospitality sector. The solution combines Wi-Fi as well as monitoring and control functions for lighting, door locks and air conditioning (room automation), and security systems (CCTV) in a single network structure. CCTV is mandatory on cruise ships to ensure safety during voyages. Lufthansa Industry Solutions also provides guests with access to images from the cameras in their cabins so that they can see where the ship is at all times.

In addition to new services for guests such as this one, the solution also ensures a fail-safe, high-performance network for a wide range of additional systems and applications on board. The centralized IT infrastructure solution also makes it possible to integrate, monitor and manage systems from third-party providers at any time, increasing efficiency and saving money. In its role as a consultant, Lufthansa Industry Solutions was involved in planning the new IT infrastructure of the Crystal Mozart from the very start so as to allow it to analyze needs and options and contribute new ideas early in the game.
